HYDERABAD: The recognised body of employees in the AP State Road Transport Corporation, the National Mazdoor Union (NMU) has expressed its protest at the latest diesel price hike and resolved to observe July 7 as a protest day, with members wearing black badges, said the union's working President M. Nageswara Rao. Mr. Rao said that given the gravity of the situation, with the corporation struggling to stay afloat despite the losses it sustained, its existence was at stake now with the diesel price hike. He urged Government to exempt the corporation from sales tax on diesel and help RTC out of the debt trap. The NMU will also observe a day's hunger strike before all the depots across the State on July 12, he said. In another press release, the APSRTC Employees Union General Secretary K. Padmakar regretted the increased burden on an organisation that was working hard to make ends meet. The increase in fuel prices was likely to lead to a fare hike and if it did happen, it would be a direct bearing on the occupancy ratio he said.
