HYDERABAD: All Opposition parties and trade union organisations in the State have criticised the price hike of diesel, kerosene and LPG cylinders and staged protests in different forms. They have also called for agitations protesting the hike terming it an anti-people measure. Eleven Left parties including CPI, CPI (M), RSP, AIFB and others had a meeting here on Saturday called for State-wide protests on June 29. Leaders of these parties stated that the hike would have an adverse impact on all sections of people, particularly on the middle-class, poor and farmers. The hike mostly contained taxes levied by the Centre and State governments, Y. Venkateswara Rao and S. Veeraiah (CPI-M), Chada Venkat Reddy (CPI), Janakiramulu (RSP), L. Muralidhar Deshpande (AIFB) and others said. Meanwhile, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has decided to hold protests on June 27. Activists of CPI (M) staged a novel protest by carrying empty LPG cylinders from the party office to RTC crossroads and burnt an effigy of the UPA Government. Speaking at the protest, former MP P. Madhu alleged that the Centre had hiked fuel prices to protect the interests of corporate companies and demanded immediate rollback of the hike. The party sought increase monthly kerosene quota to ration cardholders. The YSR Congress Party said the fuel price hike would be unbearable to the poor and middle-class.
