CHENNAI: Top seed Vijay Sundar Prashanth won the Hande Medical Centre State-ranking tennis tournament with a 6-2, 6-3 verdict over Mohit Mayur in the final here on Saturday. Vijay Sundar set the tone with a break in the first game of the match. He rolled out an aggressive brand of tennis, the down-the-line backhand being his staple stroke. Even as wildcard entrant Mohit struggled to hold serve, his opponent maintained his composure in long rallies. Vijay Sundar broke again in the seventh and served out the set in the following game. The second set witnessed an even contest despite Mohit being stretched to deuce in all his service games. Vijay Sundar secured a crucial break in the seventh game and, by winning two more games on the trot, clinched the issue in style. The men's winner received Rs. 30,000 while the runner-up was richer by Rs. 15,000. The winners and runners-up in the boys' and girls' categories received gift vouchers worth Rs. 5,000 and Rs. 2,000 respectively. Krishna Hande, Director, Hande Medical Centre, Indira Hande, Medical Superintendent, Hande Medical Centre, T.D.
