PDEXCIL opens textile design studio

ERODE: The Powerloom Development and Export Promotion Council (PDEXCIL) has opened a textile design studio at its office premises here on Saturday.

PDEXCIL chairman Bharatkumar M. Chhajer, inaugurating the studio at a function held here, said that the facility was established under the Market Access Initiative of the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Bharatkumar said that the textile sector in the country was growing at a fast pace. It would register 30 per cent growth in the next five years. As a result, the PDEXCIL had planned to spread awareness among the younger generation, particularly those hailing from the rural areas, about the growth opportunities in the textile industry and the new technologies used in the sector. The new facility at Erode would provide design-oriented training programmes to the youth.

Former Chairman of the Council M.S. Mathivanan, said that the Ministry provided a grant of Rs. 25 lakh for the establishment of the studio. The PDEXCIL would manage and operate the facility.

A large number of youth would be given training through the studio, he added.

Members of the council and representatives of various associations were present.
