Gold stolen from temple

KRISHNAGIRI: Gold, silver ornaments and pooja articles were stolen from the Mariamman Temple in Onthiyam at Nadupatti panchayat near Uthangarai here on Saturday night.

On Sunday, the villagers found the lock of the temple broken and the almirahs open. It was reported that over 10 sovereigns of jewellery, five silver umbrellas among other valuables were stolen.

Besides, the lock of the hundi was also found broken. On information, Deputy Superintendent of Police Kasi Vishwanathan, Uthangarai, along with the Singarapettai police rushed to the spot. Forensic experts were pressed into service.
