Monsoon may remain sluggish for some days

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The South West Monsoon may continue to be sluggish for some more days as a low pressure system, cruising over the North West Bay of Bengal, was absorbing all the moisture and resulting in reduced rain in southern peninsula.

According to sources in the Met office here, a depression that crossed over the West Bengal coast a few days ago led to deficit rainfall all over the southern peninsula. However, even after crossing the coast, the system did not dissipate and remained alive as a low pressure area over North West Bay of Bengal. The sources said that there would be good rains once it dissipates completely and a fresh low pressure area was formed over North Bay of Bengal.

It is something rare for the system to remain alive for so many days. Isolated rain might occur in many parts of the State in the next 24 hours.
