VISAKHAPATNAM: Personnel from Indian Coast Guards on Sunday rescued seven fishermen from a stranded fishing vessel near Paradip. The Coast Guard headquarters here swung into action on receipt of SoS on Saturday from the AP Mechanised Boat Operators' Association to rescue the fishermen stranded in fishing vessel Kumarandrapur due to gearbox breakdown at about 30 nautical miles from Paradip in Orissa. The boat was reported adrift with the crew without food and water since Friday. On receipt of the request, the headquarters officials told other Coast Guard ships. Responding to this, Coast Guard ship Sarojini Naidu immediately rushed to assist the stranded boat. The ship extensively carried out search in the reported area and located the boat. The technical team of the ship boarded the boat and found that there was complete breakdown of the gearbox. As repair was ruled out, the boat was towed to Paradip along with the crew.
