The president will be a powerful person under the new scheme of things KOCHI: The Kerala Football Association (KFA) shed much of its flab and brought in major changes at a special general body meeting here on Sunday in a bid to work more efficiently. The KFA amended its bylaws at the meeting which was chaired by its President K.M.I. Mather, trimming its general body from 102 to 42 members, with each of the State's 14 districts sending three members to the body. Only these 42 members will have voting rights. Similarly, the Executive Committee has been reduced to 21 members and will include the seven office-bearers (the president, treasurer and five vice-presidents). Paid secretary The post of honorary secretary has been removed and a general secretary, a paid person who will head the general secretariat which will do the administrative work, will be appointed. The president will be a powerful person under the new scheme of things. Apart from representing the KFA legally, he will be responsible for implementing the decisions of the general body and the Executive Committee through the general secretariat. He will also have to the power to propose the appointment and dismissal of the general secretary. The new steps are in line with the guidelines of the AFC, the Asian body, and AIFF, the national association. The elections to choose the KFA's new office-bearers, which were supposed to be held in August, have been postponed to September 25 and the district associations have been asked to complete their elections in July.
