VIJAYAWADA: In a freak accident, three members of a marriage party, including bridegroom's mother, Sk. Farhad Begum, 45, died after they jumped from a railway bridge to avoid getting hit by a Guntur-bound train on Saturday night. The victims got down from Pinakini Express after it stopped on outer tracks for over an hour and they stepped onto the nearby track as there was a way beside the bridge to reach for the National Highway below. But on seeing a train moving towards them, they stood on the edges of track and some of them jumped from the bridge. They came here from Chennai to attend the engagement ceremony of Mr. Rehman, which was to be held at Bhavanipuram on Sunday. They got down the train in the outer to reach home at Bhavanipuram. While Ms. Farhad Begum died on the spot, Jileka Bi (60 years) and Nazar Sharief (31) succumbed to injuries at a private hospital on Sunday. Two others, Nayeem and Yuvana, survived as they stood unmoved on the track side. Another passenger, Gouse, is stated to have suffered serious injuries and is battling for life in the hospital.
