Final hearing on TDP MLA's disqualification today

TDP rebel MLA N. Prasanna Kumar Reddy will depose before the Speaker tomorrow

Four rebel MLAs from Congress and two from Praja Rajyam facing disqualification

HYDERABAD: Speaker Nadendla Manohar will take up final hearing on the disqualification petition against dissident TDP MLA N. Prasanna Kumar Reddy filed by the Telugu Desam Legislature Party (TDLP) last year on Monday.

TDP Whip Dhulipala Narendra Kumar along with the legal counsel is scheduled to attend a hearing in the chambers of the Speaker on Monday. The TDP MLA representing Kovvur constituency in Nellore district has been allowed to observe the proceedings.

Mr. Prasanna Kumar Reddy would depose before the Speaker on Tuesday to give his side of version. Sources in the Legislature Secretariat maintained the long pending petition against Mr. Prasanna Kumar Reddy would be disposed off first.

Once the Speaker gives his judgement on the disqualification petition, he is likely to take up similar petitions against six other rebel MLAs from the Congress, TDP and the Praja Rajyam.

It is understood that summons to the remaining legislators to appear for hearing is likely to be issued some time in July. The Congress MLAs have already replied to the notices served by the Speaker on the petition filed by the CLP. Sources in the Legislature Secretariat said the Speaker could take up the remaining petitions in one batch. Depending on the nature of complaint, the four petitions seeking the disqualification of Congress MLAs could be heard as a single case.

Petitions

The Congress Legislature Party has submitted disqualification petitions against -- Konda Surekha (Parkal), C. Adinarayana Reddy (Jammalamadugu), G. Srikanth Reddy (Rayachoti) and A. Amaranatha Reddy (Rajampet). The Praja Rajyam had first submitted a petition seeking disqualification of party MLA Shoba Nagi Reddy (Allagadda) and Katasani Rami Reddy (Banganapalli). But, later it withdrew the petition against Mr. Rami Reddy after he returned to the party fold. On the TDP front, Mantralayam MLA Y. Balanagi Reddy is facing disqualification petition. All these legislators are facing action for their association with the YSR Congress Party president Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy. These MLAs have been not only attending his programmes but participating in the meetings convened by Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy and issuing statements against their own party leadership.
