Discom announces two-hour power cut in Krishna district

Staff Reporter

It will however not be imposed in the city

The load relief is being imposed in view of delay in onset of South West monsoon

The industrial sector will also have to limit its use of power

VIJAYAWADA: The Southern Power Distribution Company of AP Limited (SPDCL) has announced a temporary power cut (load relief) of two hours in the district. The power cut, however, would not be imposed in the city. The load relief is being imposed in view of delay in onset of South West monsoon. The power cut began on Saturday.

The power cut to all mandal head quarters and sub station head quarters would be implemented from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Similarly, a two-hour load relief would be from 11a.m. to 1 p.m. in all municipalities. The SPDCL also announced that there would not be single phase supply to the rural feeders during non-feeding hours- 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. The SPDCL, hitherto, used to supply single phase power in case three-phase power supply was not possible.

The SPDCL has asked its officials to ensure that a five-hour continuous power supply for agricultural connections during day time. If Emergency Load Relief (ELR) were to be implemented for the agriculture sector, it would be compensated from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. It also asked the officials to ensure that the domestic connections (lighting supply) would have power supply from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The industrial sector would also have to limit its use of power as the SPDCL has planned to impose peak load restriction from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. While all continuous process industries should limit their demand to 70 per cent of normal average, peak load restriction would be imposed on all other industrial loads.

The peak load restriction would be applicable for dedicated feeders as well, officials say.
