It's time for elections to ‘school parliament'

HUBLI: With the beginning of the academic year, it was time for elections to the ‘students' parliament' in some schools in Hubli-Dharwad.

Last week, the English Medium High School, Hubli, run by the South Western Railway Women's Welfare Organisation (SWRWWO), held the investiture ceremony of its school parliament.

Organisation's president Kalpana Chaturvedi honoured the elected student leaders by pinning the badges to the head boy, head girl, captains of sports, and class leaders. She called upon them to set an example for others to follow by working hard and sincerely. School secretary Amita Chaturvedi, and treasurer Jyothi Govindkumar were present.

Investiture ceremony for students parliament was held at Sanskaar English Medium School in Hubli and it coincided with the inauguration of the Science Club, Literature Club and ‘Jagruti', environment awareness club. Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation commissioner K.V. Trilok Chandra, and industrialist Jayaprakash Tenginakai advised students to keep the habit of learning throughout their lives. Head boy Karan Jotwani, and head girl Lavina Soni, along with others, were installed as members of students parliament and the captains of various houses of the school were installed formally. Vice-President of the school Mahaveer Kundur was present.

Electronic voting

At Shanti Niketan English Medium School in Hubli, members of school parliament were elected by using electronic voting. The students of class IV to X voted for their ‘student leaders', the staff members including H. Rajeshwari, T. Nishad and T. Ningappa officiated as election officers, the computer teacher Madhusudhan Ghodke had developed a software required for the electronic voting. The “Prime Minister”, the “Deputy Prime Minister” and other “Ministers” were elected and the results were announced within a couple of minutes of the completion of the polling process. Chairman of the school Amrutlal Jain, and vice-chairman Parasmal Jain were present.

Valedictory

The extracurricular activities of the IBMR College of Journalism came to an end with a formal valedictory ceremony last week in Hubli. Journalist Subhash Hugar asked journalism students to make efforts to become the voice of the oppressed class by taking up social issues.

Working president of IBMR group of institutions Vinaychandra Mahendrakar asked the students to develop command over the language. Principal Nayana Gangadhar presided over the function.

Book released

The Spanish translation of the book Advanced Endodontics written by R. Nageshwar Rao, former Professor and Head of the Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics in SDM College of Dental Sciences and Hospital, Dharwad, was formally released at the college last week. Dr. Rao has several publications to his credit and the Spanish translation of his book has been published by Amolca Actualidades Medicas, an American publishing house.
