Rain brings cheer to ryots

ADILABAD: The first proper rainfall of the season on Sunday raised hopes of the farmers in Adilabad district though some of them had lost the seeds sown at the beginning of the month. All the 52 mandals received rainfall from Saturday night.

The rainfall was moderate in the mandals in the west of the district while it also rained in intermittent heavy spells in Koutala, Sirpur (T), Asifabad, Wankidi, Kerameri, Jainoor, Sirpur (U), Tiryani, Mancherial, Dandepalli and Jannaram. Sowing operations will be taken up in the earnest once the current spell of rainfall ceases.

Over 6 lakh hectares of land will be cultivated this kharif wherein cotton will be the major crop. A section of cotton farmers will have to purchase additional quantity of Bt cotton seed for re-sowing the areas where the seed was lost due to the dry spell.
