KOCHI: Actor Mammootty, who spoke at an anti-liquor campaign meeting held to mark International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking here on Sunday, shocked the audience by sharing his experience in connection with alcohol abuse. The actor had, as part of a film-shooting, visited a central prison. As he had wanted to observe the facial expressions and body language of a prisoner, he spoke to a convict serving a life term. The man was withdrawn and expressionless. But he told the actor why he had been convicted: he had killed his college-going son when he saw the son trying, under the influence of alcohol, to rape his own mother. This experience had shown the actor that people under the influence of alcohol and drugs could do any inhuman act. Mr. Mammootty pointed out in his speech that the new generation was taking to liquor and drugs at an early age and asked parents to keep a watch on their children always.
