Himalayan Odyssey flagged off

Staff reporter

NEW DELHI: The eighth edition of the Himalayan Odyssey was flagged off here over the weekend. This year the Odyssey will cover a distance of 2,560 km before re-converging in Delhi on July 10.

The team also has more participants than before and the youngest is in the early 20s. Addressing the participants before flagging off the event, Royal Enfield chief executive officer Dr. Venkatesh Padmanabhan said: “Over the past seven years the Himalayan Odyssey has emerged as a pilgrimage and a must-do for the riders.”

“We have been going to Ladkah and Himachal Pradesh for many years now and the region has always been kind to us. The Himalayan Odyssey 2010 was completely unaffected by the rain the flood that affected the region last year. We salute the spirit of the people as they strive to rebuild their region. This year we will try and contribute by taking even more riders, 72 to be precise, to experience the pristine charm of this region,” he went on to add.

Royal Enfield's contribution for home stay will be utilised by a non government organisation Ecosphere in rebuilding the region. The riders are booked for home stay at Ecosphere, which operates in the Kaza region.
