Lecturers of rural colleges urged to take more interest Merit scholarships given to top three students VISAKHAPATNAM: Minister for Tribal Welfare P. Balaraju has appreciated Collector Lav Agarwal for his efforts to improve the Intermediate pass percentage in Government Junior Colleges in the State when he was Director of Intermediate Education in his previous posting. Mr. Agarwal had impressed on the Government to allot funds to train students of Government colleges and achieved the results, Mr. Balaraju said during the valedictory function of the education fortnight celebrations here. He was particularly happy that the GJC at Upper Sileru was among the 11 government colleges that achieved cent per cent pass. Mr. Balaraju urged the lecturers of rural colleges to take more interest since the government colleges were the only available facility for the poor students in rural areas. Mr. Agarwal said systematic efforts were responsible for improving the 48 per cent pass in Government college two years ago to the present 64 per cent. He was happy that the government colleges performed on par with the corporate colleges. MLA Malla Vijaya Prasad and RIO of Intermediate Board Regional Assistant Director T. Suribabu spoke. Mr. Balaraju handed over merit scholarships to the top three students in each group. Merit certificates and mementoes were given to Principals of Upper Sileru, Deverapalli, K. Kotapadu, KD Peta and Nakkapalli GJCs, for being the top five in the district.
