Retailers plan protest

Kolhapur: Manure-manufacturing companies are forcing their retailers to sell manure along with other agricultural inputs such as liquid manures, it has been alleged.

In response to farmers' complaints about this, the Agriculture Department has asked its officials to raid retailers in the southern Maharashtra and take action against them.

Accordingly, action was taken against the retailers in Kolhapur and Sangli districts by the officials. However, the retailers had complained that they were unnecessarily targeted while action was not being taken against the companies which had imposed the linking sale.

Retailers associations in the region had decided to stage a protest on the issue and urged the department to take action against the companies rather than the retailers.
