Garbage piles up in Pathanamthitta town

PATHANAMTHITTA: The dumping of waste by the civic body on low-lying land along Ring Road in Pathanamthitta town is posing a threat to public health and hygiene.

The accumulation of large quantities of waste, especially near a private hospital in the area, is causing a lot of pollution.

The stench emanating from the waste has made life miserable for local people and passersby. Rodents, mosquitoes, and flies thrive here.

Garbage also lies accumulated in various parts of the town.

Jaundice cases

Stray cases of jaundice and vector-borne viral diseases have been reported from the municipal limits.

The small sewage treatment plant of the civic body has become defunct, leading to piling up of solid waste at its yard.

It is alleged that the garbage is dumped along Ring Road with the connivance of certain quarters of the municipality.

Empty bottles and cans heaped up in the backyard of General Hospital have become a breeding ground for mosquitoes and flies.
