Nod for much-awaited bridge hailed

Staff Correspondent

Rs. 34 crore has been approved for the project

The construction of the bridge will strengthen the connectivity in the region.

Travelling distance will be reduced by more than 20 km

Shimoga: The approval accorded by the State government in the recently held Cabinet meeting to construct a bridge across river Tungabhadra to connect Holalur with Sanyasikodumagge village, has been welcomed from various quarters.

The State Cabinet has approved construction of the bridge at a cost of Rs. 34 crore. The project will be implemented through Karnataka State Road Development Corporation.

The construction of the bridge will reduce the distance and time of travelling to Chitradurga and Davangere by more than 20 km, especially for people of the villages along the left bank of the river. In the absence of the bridge, people from villages like Gondichatnahalli, Bullapura, Sugur, Kyatinakoppa, Holalur, and Arabaghatta up to Nyamathi had to travel to Shimoga to reach the village located on the other side of the river. During summer, people used to cross the river on a coracle but during monsoon they had to travel by road. Member of Grama Panchayat of Holalur K.G. Ningappa has welcomed the decision to build the bridge. Students of Sanyasikodumagge, Sidlipura, and Bhadrapura villages who study at the Government First Grade College located in Holalur will benefit from this bridge. It will ensure easy access to Holalur for farmers from surrounding villages. Former member of zilla panchayat H.C. Basavarajappa told The Hinduthat the construction of the bridge will strengthen the connectivity in the region.

The construction of the bridge will strengthen the personal and commercial relationships of Shimoga with Chitradurga and Davangere districts. As the bridge across the Tungabhadra near Holehonnur has become old, the construction of Holalur-Sanyasikodumagge bridge will open an alternative route, he said.

K.G. Kumaraswamy, Shimoga Rural MLA, has, in a statement, said that the construction of the bridge would boost development of the region.
