Relax rule for use of plastic products: GHMC urged

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad and Secunderabad Retail Dealers' Association, while pledging support to the GHMC's initiative to ban plastic carry bags, has also appealed for some relaxations.

Dilip Kumar Pansari, general secretary of the association, submitted a memorandum to the Additional Commissioner (Health & Sanitation) S. Aleem Basha, seeking permission for the use of plastic products within the ‘acceptable grade and norms' of the Central Pollution Control Board and which are not harmful to the health and environment.

Earlier, Mr. Basha appealed to all retail traders not to use plastic carry bags in their shops and to cooperate in effective implementation of the ban on plastic carry bags and make the city an eco-friendly one.

Necessary measures were being taken to spread awareness among the public about health hazards regarding the use of plastic products and the damage it causes to the environment.

Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH) Ashok Samrat urged members to display banners and posters in front their shops to create awareness among citizens.

Trade licenses

The Additional Commissioner also urged traders to renew their trade licences for the year 2011 – 2012 in any of the e-Seva Centres / Citizen Service Centres as the last date had been extended till July 24 for renewal of trade license without any penalty.

Those paying later would have to pay penalties ranging from 25 per cent to 50 per cent of the sanctioned fee for the closure of the shop, he said.
