Youth drowns in Sholinganallur lake
CHENNAI: A 19-year-old youth drowned after he went for a bath with his friends at the Sholinganallur lake on Saturday.
Semmancherry police identified the deceased as Anand, a resident of Kannagi Nagar, Thoraipakkam, and a student of Central Polytechnic College, Taramani.
Anand and four of his friends from Kannagi Nagar had gone to the lake around 2 p.m. on Saturday for a swim. While engaged in a competition with his friends to see who could reach the opposite bank first, Anand collapsed and drowned.
His friends alerted the police who called the Fire and Rescue personnel from the Sirucheri fire station. The search to locate him went on till evening but ended in vain. His body was found afloat on Sunday morning. Semmancherry police recovered the body and sent it to Government Royapettah Hospital for post-mortem.
