COIMBATORE: ‘Kannadasan Kazhgam' on Sunday honoured literary figures S. Ramakrishnan and Rama. Muthaiah. At the ‘Kannadasan Vizha 2011' held here, the organisers presented ‘Kannadasan Awards' to the two persons.

The citation said that Mr. Muthaiah had not only been a companion of poet Kannadasan for 22 years – from 1958 to 1980 – but had also shared through books his association with the poet. He had penned a book and also published a couple of books.

Personality

The citation for Mr. Ramakrishnan said he was an important personality in modern Tamil literature. His 1,000-plus-page book on world cinema and writings in popular Tamil journals were important works in his writing spanning 25 years.

He has also been associated with Tamil films, short films and documentaries and many of those had won awards at national and international levels.

Mr. Ramakrishnan had recently won the Tagore prize for literature and many other awards, both in India and abroad. Philanthropist O. Arumughasamy, president, Sri Vijayalakshmi Educational Trust, gave away the prizes. The award to the literary figures included cash prize of Rs. 50,000 each.
