Bangalore: One police constable sustained severe injuries even as a few members of public too received injuries in a case of public assaulting the police and the latter resorting to lathi-charge in Hulimavu Police Station limits on Bannerghatta Road here on Sunday night. The police gave the name of the injured constable as Rajesh, attached to Hulimavu Police Station. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East) P.S. Harsha told The Hindu that Rajesh and another constable were posted to check chain-snatching incidents in Dodda Kammanahalli coming under Hulimavu Police limits. By late evening, the constables, who went to inquire about a minor accident, were accosted by some anti-social elements who severely thrashed the police personnel on duty, Mr. Harsha said. When the Hulimavu Police Inspector went to the spot with reinforcement, a local leader Chinnappa, organised people and obstructed the police from discharging the duty, the officer said. Finally, the situation was brought under control after police resorted to lathi-charge. “We have registered a case of obstructing government officials from discharging their duties and are investigating,” Mr. Harsha said. People involved in the incident will be brought to book, he added.
