Velumani presented the distinguished service award to seven staff members of G. Kuppuswamy Naidu Memorial Hospital at a function in the city on Saturday. On the occasion, Mr. Velumani said that the hospital should provide free treatment to selected patients every year so that the service would reach the poor. Collector M. Karunakaran said that commercialisation had invaded many hospitals and recognising the staff service would encourage them to perform better and serve the society. Awardees The awards were presented to S. Natarajan, Head of the Department-cum-Chief Cardiologist, R. Parimala, Medical Officer, Chidbhavananda Rural Medical Centre, Veerapandi, V. Nagarajan, Head of the Department and Chief Radiation Oncologist, S. Deivaseeli, Manager, Health Information, C. Parimala, ward in-charge staff nurse, Labour Theatre, A. Christy Babuji, staff nurse, Cardiothoracic Operation Theatre and A. Joice Kirubamani of Neo-natal ICU. In his address, S. Pathy, president, Kuppuswamy Naidu Charity Trust for Education and Medical Relief, said the honour was bestowed on individual for his/her exemplary contribution to the development of the hospital every year during the Founder's Day celebrations. R. Ragupathy, Hospital Dean, V.B. Ramakrishnan, Medical Superintendent, and K. Sugumar, Pollachi MP, also participated in the celebrations.
