The Kozhikode-based artist M.P. Suresh is all set to bounce back from a two-year convalescence after a minor accident. Nearly 20 of his latest paintings, some undergoing final touches at his studio here, are ready for exhibition in Bangalore, Chennai, and Ernakulam. There would be an exhibition in the U.K. after that.

The paintings have been done under a contract with a U.K.-based art studio that has asked for 18 works by him to be sold among European art lovers. The paintings, all acrylic on canvas, are on various subjects, mostly inspired by nature. Mr. Suresh does not follow a particular style but uses various styles for different paintings. Some are realistic, though there is a clear evolution from the realistic to the abstract when they are put together. Works like ‘Village Scene,' ‘Blossom Morning' and ‘Season' are inspired by nature and realistic. ‘Very late,' ‘Return,' ‘Freedom,' ‘Rape,' and ‘Dream bath' use women as the centre of activity, going deep into different levels of the female psyche. ‘Dream bath' is a surrealistic piece that shows a nude figure amid a yellow aura enhanced by dream-like features. Another painting ‘Ambalpoikayile Kulirkattu' is inspired by many of litterateur O.V. Vijayan's works. ‘Waiting' could be called the most advanced and refined of Mr. Suresh's works, one that could appeal to European sensibilities.

Mr. Suresh was a well-known camp artist recognised for his sculptures.Mr. Suresh resigned his job at Fine Arts College here to dedicate his time to the current project.
