Students can exhibit their skills in four categories VILLUPURAM: The competitions for selection of candidates for the National Bala Shree awards would be conducted in the Kamarajar boys' higher secondary school here at 9 a.m. on July 3, according to R.Muthu, Director (Thanjavur region), Jawahar Bal Bhavan. In a statement released here on Monday, Mr Muthu stated that the competitions are open to the students in the age group of 9 to 16. The students could exhibit their skills in four categories: performing arts (Bharatanatyam, vocal music, folk dance, folk music and mimicry); creative art (painting and handicrafts); creative writing (poetry, short story and essay) and innovative science (demonstrating scientific discoveries). These competitions would be separately held for three age groups — 9 to 11; 12 to 14 and 15 to 16. The participants should bring the necessary materials for the competitions. The winners in the competitions would be sent to the southern regional competitions to be held either in Chennai or Thiruvananthapuram or in Puducherry. Similar contests in Cuddalore Similar competitions would be held for the students of Cuddalore district on the premises of the Government Music School located on the Pudupalayam Main Road in Cuddalore at 9 a.m. on July 3, the statement added.
