Land Grabbing Cell receives 50 complaints

Cases will be segregated according to merit, says Commissioner of Police

Public can contact over phone no. 0427-2265500

The response from public shocking, says

Sunil Kumar Singh

SALEM: Land Grabbing – Retrieval Cell has been formed in Salem on instructions from IG-cum-Commissioner of Police Sunil Kumar Singh.

The cell, which became active from Saturday, would have a special team headed by Inspector M. Sankareswaran, which included a Sub Inspector, two Special Sub Inspectors and three head Constables. S.Baskaran, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Law & Order, Salem City and Assistant Commissioner of Police, CCB, will supervise the work of special team.

The team would investigate the cases related with land grabbing issues.

The victims could give complaints before the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Law & Order, Salem. The contact number of CCB is 0427-2265500. This arrangement has been made to give special attention to land grabbing issues and to invite complaints in this regard with a view to taking action according to law, says a press release here.

Meanwhile, the Salem Rural Police's special cell on land grab, according to a senior officer, had received more than 50 complaints from various people.

“The response from the public is really shocking. We have started segregating cases as per merit. Civic issues will be referred back to the complainants asking them go to courts while illegal occupations of lands will be dealt by the special cell,” he further pointed out.

Sensitive cases

Salem district and city have assumed the dubious distinction of getting more number of land grabbing cases of which a few sensitive cases in which powerful persons are involved had been referred to senior officials in Chennai for further action, said the official.
