dated June 28, 1961: Khrushchev's hope

Mr. Khrushchev said in Moscow on June 27 he believed the “noble struggle of the Vietnamese people will result in the setting up of a single, peace-loving and democratic Viet Nam,” Tass reported. Speaking at a luncheon in honour of the North Viet Nam Prime Minister, Mr. Pham Van Dong, the Soviet leader added: “The Democratic Republic of Viet Nam has in the Soviet Union a reliable and faithful friend in the common struggle for the construction of Socialism.” Mr. Khrushchev said there was “complete identity of views” between the two Governments on the matter of Laos, and other international questions. The two leaders had earlier held “cordial conversations”, Tass reported.
