TIRUPATI: The fast-unto-death agitation of the students of Veterinary University here took a serious turn as it entered the fourth day on Monday. Police, at the instance of authorities concerned, swooped down on the hunger strike camp and whisked the fasting students to the Government General Hospital here following reports of their deteriorating health condition. Sources said that though the police rushed two of the seven fasting students to hospital under ‘critical condition', it was not until the Dean of the Veterinary College intervened that treatment was started, leading eventually to a mild tension at the hospital on Sunday night. Tense moments On Monday, as the police arrived at the university campus to remove the remaining five fasting students also to the hospital, they had to face a stiff resistance from the irate students. The situation turned serious as some students reportedly doused themselves with petrol and threatened to go aflame if the police tried to catch them. The policemen, however, managed to overpower the defiant students. As to their future course of action, a representative of the striking students said they would decide on Monday night after consulting their counterparts at Gannavaram and Proddatur Veterinary Colleges.
