KAKINADA: The Directorate of Women Empowerment and Grievances of the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Kakinada (JNTUK) conducted a meeting with the mentors and women scientists on the promotion of Women Scientist Scheme announced by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) of the Union government. The scheme provides a research grant with an upper limit of Rs. 23 lakh (for Ph.D. or equivalent) and Rs. 20 lakh (for M.Sc. or equivalent) for a well-defined project proposal for a period of three years and women scientists in the age group of 30 to 50 years are eligible to apply. Professor in ECE department, Andhra University, K. Raja Rajeswari felt that it was not going to be a big deal for scientists with good skills and hard work to get the scholarship. Vice-Chancellor of the JNTUK Allam Appa Rao recalled that 14 scientists were selected for the scholarship and expressed confidence that the number would soon touch 100 in the near future. Director of the department of Women Empowerment and Grievances of the JNTUK I. Santhi Prabha said that the objective of the programme was to create awareness among women who pursued MSc, B.Tech., M.Tech., and Ph.D. about the opportunities being provided by the DST for research.
