CAB panel extends season

KOLKATA: The Cricket Association of Bengal's (CAB) working committee on Monday decided to extend the season by a month to complete the unfinished fixture.

Giving this information to the media, a spokesman of the CAB said normally the season would have ended on June 30 but this year owing to rains three tournaments remain unfinished. “We sought the permission of the working committee to extend the season in the interest of the game. And it was granted,'' he said.

The CAB two-day league quarterfinal between East Bengal and Kalighat was postponed thrice owing to rain. Two more tournaments, senior knockout and P. Sen Trophy, are yet to be completed.

Merchants' Cup golf

The world's oldest inter-company event is the Merchants' Cup golf competition which has been held since 1906. The Telegraph Merchants' Cup golf 2011, presented by the KKN Group of companies, will be played at the Royal Calcutta Golf Club from July 26 to 29.

A team will consist of four players but not less than three and the best three scores will count towards the team aggregate.

The Telegraph Challenge Cup is open to individuals or companies who can form a team of four players but not less than three. Each team shall play a round of 18 holes. The best three scores will count.
