CUDDALORE: At least 21 residents of Kuchipalayam village in Karumbur panchayat have been admitted to Panruti government hospital with symptoms of vomiting and diarrhoea. According to sources, the residents took ill after consuming water supplied from an overhead tank, on Monday. The tank is under the maintenance of the Karumbur panchayat. Collector V. Amuthavalli, along with Deputy Director (Health Services) R.Meera, called on the persons hospitalised and then visited the village. Ms. Amuthavalli enquired about the source of drinking water supplied and also inspected the quality of water being supplied from the overhead tank. Later, she said that water samples would be sent to laboratory for testing. After obtaining the results, remedial measures would be taken. She directed officials to arrange for cleaning of the tank and ensure that clean water is supplied. The Collector also said that she would issue an omnibus order to the panchayats to clean all overhead tanks every fortnight. Ms. Amuthavalli also said that a medical team was making door-to-door visit in the village to diagnose health problems of the residents. All those recuperating in the hospital were in good health, she added.
