Kochi: A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Thursday directed the Director, Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Thiruvananthapuram, to file a detailed affidavit in response to a case relating to adulteration of gold ornaments by using iridium and ruthenium. The Bench of Justice A.K. Basheer and P.Q. Barkathli, initiating suo motu proceedings, had pointed out that as per a study, the isotopes of iridium were highly carcinogenic. It was unfortunate that the issue had not been given top priority by the State and Central governments, the Bench had said.
