Raichur: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) will organise a Statewide agitation against the Union and State governments' failure to control prices, on Wednesday. Addressing presspersons here on Monday, Srirama Reddy, former MLA and member of the State working committee of the CPI(M), accused the governments of pursuing “anti-people” policies. They had encouraged corruption in administration, affecting economic development, he charged. He said the UPA Government was repeatedly hiking fuel prices which had affected the common man. ‘Anti-farmer' policies Also, the BJP Government in the State was not only corrupt but was also pursuing “anti-farmer” policies, he alleged. Mr. Reddy said people in the State were in distress owing to regular increase in prices of essential commodities. Alleging misuse of funds meant for rehabilitation of the flood-affected people, he said the Government collected Rs. 4,500 crore through donations and contribution from the Centre. But it had not provided shelter to the affected people in north Karnataka. He alleged that the Government had failed in handling the power situation in the State, and the power plants in the State were also not maintained properly. Also, it had made no serious effort to implement the proposed power projects. Instead, the Government had been accusing the Centre of not supplying enough coal. The truth was that the Centre had refused to supply coal as the State had not cleared the arrears towards coal supply, he said.
