Registration for Aadhaar begins in two divisions

Those who stay in India for 181 days continuously will be considered resident Indians

Government plans to complete the process in Karnataka by July next year




The first one:Animal Husbandry Minister Revu Naik Belamagi launching the Aadhaar scheme in Gulbarga on Monday.

GULBARGA: The process of registration for issuing the Unique Identification (UID) numbers to citizens under the Aadhaar programme began simultaneously in Gulbarga and Belgaum divisions on Monday.

While the exercise was in Gulbarga and Yadgir districts in Gulbarga division, it was Bijapur and Dharwad districts in Belgaum division.

In Gulbarga, the scheme was launched by Animal Husbandry Minister Revu Naik Belamagi in the presence of Aruna C. Patil, MLA; Shashil G. Namoshi, MLC; Regional Commissioner Rajneesh Goel; Deputy Commissioner R. Vishal, and Additional Deputy Commissioner Math Mallikarjun.

Mr. Belamagi said that every Indian should get the UID number as it would be essential for a host of things, including opening bank accounts, getting LPG connections, and benefits from government.

Dr. Goel said that more than 300 centres would be established in different parts of Gulbarga district to help people get enrolled.

The work of enrolling people had been entrusted to different agencies.

In Gulbarga district it is will be done by Tera Software Ltd.

Target

The Government has set itself a target of issuing UID numbers to all residents of Karnataka by the end of July 2012.

The Government has clarified that all those who stayed in India continuously for 181 days would be considered as “resident Indians” and would be covered under the programme.

The scheme has been launched in Karnataka, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh.
