FOR A PUBLIC CAUSE:J. Shantha, MP, leading a protest rally of the BJP Mahila Morcha in Bellary BELLARY: Members of the Bellary district unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party Mahila Morcha staged a protest here on Monday against the recent hike in the prices of diesel, kerosene and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). Led by J. Shantha, MP; Parvathi Indushekar, Mayor; Aruna Thippareddy, president of the zilla panchayat; and Sashikala, Deputy Mayor; the protesters took out a rally from the city corporation to the Deputy Commissioner's office, where they submitted a memorandum addressed to the President. They formed a human chain at Gadagi Chennappa Circle and burnt the effigy of United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi. Traffic was disrupted for some time at the circle. Impact on price Ms. Shantha said that the hike in the prices of diesel, kerosene and LPG would lead to an increase in the prices of all essential commodities. The protesters urged the President to ensure the immediate withdrawal of the increase in fuel prices. President of the district unit of BJP Mahila Morcha Savita Bai and other prominent leaders of the party took part in the protest.
