Scuffle:TRS members rush towards IT Services Minister P. Lakshmaiah as he leaves the meeting on Monday in Warangal.

WARANGAL: IT Services minister P. Lakshmaiah who is also the in-charge minister for Endowments asked officials to conduct a survey of Endowment lands in the district.

At a review meeting held at the Collectorate here on Monday, he wanted officials to list out the extent of lands under each temple and the same to be displayed at the Mandal Revenue Offices to prevent selling and buying of the same land.

The officials apprised the minister that there was 4,512 acres of land in the district belonging to Endowments department. Of which, 464 acres were leased out and 876 acres encroached upon while 2,600 acres were in possession of temple priests.

Ornaments review

The minister instructed the officials to list out gold and silver ornaments present in each temple and deposit the same in nationalized banks which were offering interest on the ornaments.

Reviewing the agricultural situation in the district, the minister requested the principal secretary to make available adequate quantities of cotton seed and fertilisers at the earliest.

Cotton seed sowing

The district collector explained that of the 12 lakh cotton seed packets, seven lakh packets were already distributed.

He said about two lakh seed packets were made available in the open market. However, due to dry spell, the farmers were not sowing the seed now. If monsoon showers come, there might be a sudden a demand once again.

Due to dry spell, farmers could sow only one lakh cotton seed packets so far.

Gram seed demand

He said of the actual demand there were only 484 quintals of green gram seed available and efforts were on to procure 900 more quintals.

According to the collector, the fertilizer demand for June month was 55,564 metric tonnes of which 32,836 metric tonnes was already distributed. By July first week, the district administration will receive 8,500 metric tonnes of fertiliser.
