Schools will get all basic facilities: Minister

NIZAMABAD: Minister for Major Irrigation P. Sudarshan Reddy said that all basic facilities will be provided at all Government schools in the district in the current academic year, here on Monday. He said this year they will spend Rs.219 crores while in the previous year Rs.114 crores was spent for the purpose.

Education volunteers

At a press conference here he said, in order to provide quality and standard education the government has been making all efforts and wherever teachers were not available education volunteers would be appointed so that teaching would not be affected. The administration accorded top priority to education, health and agriculture, he added.

Advising people to be wary of communicable diseases as monsoon is around, the Minister said supply of clean drinking water would be ensured and sanitation would be maintained to the maximum extent. The drinking water project undertaken for Rs.56 crores would be completed by the coming Dasara festival and 75 per cent work was over so far, he added.

Drain project

The Under Ground Drainage (UGD) project launched in the town was almost complete and a few works remained here and there due to hurdles in land acquisition. The problem would be solved soon and the UGD would become operation soon, he said. In regard to irrigational works Mr. Sudarshan Reddy said the Pranahitha-Chevella and Polavaram projects would get national project status and works relating to the former would be launched soon in the district.

For the Nizam Sagar Project modernization, Rs.150 crores was sanctioned and canal modernization work would be finished in two months.

Earlier in the morning, the Minister accompanied by Collector D. Varaprasad and other officials went around the town to inspect sanitation and drinking water supply to residents. He asked authorities to finish the black topping of roads at Chandrasekharnagar at the earliest. He also saw the sweeping machine purchased for an amount of Rs.96 lakhs at Corporation office.
