Scholarship to provide a leg up for girls

BANGALORE: The Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) has announced a special Girl Child Scholarship programme to provide financial assistance to girls from economically weak families.

“The Girl Child Scholarship will motivate the academically inclined but financially weaker section of girls [to study],” Mahabir Singh, SOF's Executive Director, said on Sunday. He was speaking during the presentation ceremony of the State-level olympiad awards, a press note said.

Some 75 girls would receive Rs. 18,000 each for 2011-12, to be disbursed after receiving nominations from schools.

Director of All-India Council of Technical Education K. Srikrishna Kumar and Y.S. Rajan of the Indian Space Research Organisation were present.

The last date for receiving nominations from schools for the scholarship is June 30. For details, contact SOF's head office on 01244951200 or email info@sofworld.com.
