‘Train detained as track circuit fails'

VIJAYAWADA: The total extra detention time taken from Krishna Canal to Vijayawada station for the train No. 12712 Pinakini Express was 40 minutes and the train had to be stopped due to track circuit (electronic) failure and not due to non-availability of space on platform, according to a press release from the Vijayawada Division of South Central Railway.

Three persons died on Saturday night when they alighted at the outer signal in a hurry to reach home. The train passed Krishna Canal junction at 9.35 p.m. and was detained between Krishna Canal and Vijayawada railway stations for clearance of train No.12704 Secunderabad-Howrah Falaknuma Express, which passed Krishna Canal at 9.25 p.m.

The release said that the trains were stopped for clearance of a Long Haul Goods Train. The Long Haul Goods Train passed Krishna Canal at 8.40 p.m. While the goods train was approaching Vijayawada, home signal did not obey at 8.50 p.m. due to failure of Track Circuit No.104 BT (Electronic).

Chief Signal Inspector/RRI/Vijayawada attended and rectified the signal at 9.15 p.m. and the front portion of Long Haul train arrived at the yard at 9.25 p.m. after splitting the rake. The second portion was cleared to the yard at 9.50 p.m.

Chain-pulling

Signals were then given for train No.12704 Falaknuma Express, but alarm chain pulling incident in S-8 coach detained the train for 10 minutes after passing home signal of Vijayawada and finally the train arrived into the station on platform No.6 at 10.20 p.m. 

After the arrival of the Falaknuma Express, signals were given for Pinakini Express at 10.20 p.m. and the train arrived at the station at 10.30 p.m. on platform No.5.
