RTC plying meagre number of buses towards Ibrahimpatnam, Kethanakonda, they say RTC assistant traffic manager pacifies the students by promising them to do the needful
In agitation mode: Students of various engineering colleges stopping vehicles in front of PNBS in Vijayawada on Monday. VIJAYAWADA: Traffic near the Pandit Nehru Bus Station was affected for about half an hour, as students of various engineering colleges resorted to a road blockade on NH 9 in support of their demands, here on Monday. The students demanded that the RTC operate more number of buses during morning hours. The problem cropped up with the RTC plying meagre number of buses towards Ibrahimpatnam, Kethanakonda and other places where institutions were located. The students, some of them supposed to take examinations, were waiting for a bus since early hours. But, the RTC plied only bus between 7.45 a.m. and 8.45 a.m. It upset the students, who had been bringing the issue to the notice of RTC higher-ups for the last couple of months. They approached the RTC authorities for redress of their grievances but in vain. Irked over the response from the RTC officials, the students blocked the road to draw the attention of higher authorities. The Krishnalanka police suggested to them to disperse or face police cases. It aggravated the situation further and tens of students dared the police to foist cases. Meanwhile, RTC assistant traffic manager G. Madhu Babu met the agitating students and assured them of needful action. “The students explained that they have sent the juniors, who were having examinations. The RTC authorities haven't responded properly when approached. Instead, they suggested us to look for our own transportation or travel by express buses,” they said.
