TAMBARAM: A faulty coach in a suburban electric train came dangerously close to the platform of Tambaram Sanatorium railway station on Monday morning and scraped through a portion of the platform's edges. No one was hurt nor was any serious damage caused. Southern Railway officials said that an electric train reached the station a little past 11 a.m. It left after about a minute's halt and the last compartment of the train scraped through a few inches off the platform's edges. The noise created a scare among those waiting at the platform. On information, officials reached the spot and passed on information to the control room and personnel there in turn cautioned crew of electric trains bound for Chennai Beach to negotiate the spot very carefully. Though services were not disrupted, electric trains towards Tambaram and Chennai Beach travelled slower than usual. S.R.Gandhi, Senior Divisional Security Commissioner, Railway Protection Force and senior officials from the Engineering Division also reached the spot. They said there was no need for panic and that the problem was caused by the suspension in the compartment. Engineers also made a thorough survey of the spot and also assured that remedial measures would be taken immediately.
