Sale of seeds: four arrested

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: The Hayathnagar police on Monday arrested four persons on the charge of selling cotton seeds after packing them in sachets labelled with names of reputed companies.

Cotton seeds weighing nearly 2.2 quintals were seized from the arrested Sanjeeva Reddy and Anwar of Guntur and Suresh and Ramesh of Bejjanki in Karimnagar district.

Reddy told the police that he procured the seeds from farmers in Guntur and brought them to Hayathnagar. He got labels printed with names of reputed companies selling seeds and pasted them on the sachets packed with seeds.

“Reddy was doing so for the past three years and was caught along with his associates after the police got a tip-off,” the Hayathnagar Inspector V. Bhaskar, said.

A case under Section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant provisions of the Trade Marks Act was registered against them.

Samples of the seized seeds were sent to laboratory for analysis.
