Watches, gold coins worth Rs. 35 lakh stolen

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: Thieves decamped with watches and gold coins worth Rs. 35 lakh from the warehouse of Titan watch company at Gundlapochampally in Petbasheerabad on Monday.

Police suspect role of insiders in the theft as the locks of the warehouse were intact. The warehouse contains all types of Titan watches, but the stolen were mostly costly ones – each priced above Rs. One lakh, the police said.

Gold coins, to be given as gifts to customers who purchase watches worth above Rs. One lakh, were also stolen along with the watches.

Staff of the warehouse learnt about the theft after opening it in the morning. They approached police around 2 p.m. after inquiring with the security personnel and other workers there.

It is suspected that the thieves opened the warehouse locks with duplicate keys.

Cyberabad Police Commissioner Ch. Dwaraka Tirumala Rao visited the warehouse and directed the police to form special teams to arrest the offenders.
