GUNTUR: Mild tension prevailed on the premises of A.L. College of Education, which also houses the office of the District Educational Officer, on Monday when scores of protestors demanding immediate recruitment of teachers climbed atop the building. The police had a tough time in persuading them to climb down. The protestors were finally taken into custody and later released on bail. One of the aspirants, Jani Bhasha said the State government has been dilly dallying over the issue of recruitment of teachers for the last three years. He said that about 400 candidates who had qualified in DSC-2008 had been left in lurch. He demanded that the government should immediately take up recruitment of teachers on the basis of an earlier promise to recruit teachers in 70:30 ratio, indicating the quota to B.Ed candidates and D.Ed candidates respectively. He said in the Guntur district alone, 410 vacancies have been lying vacant for the last three years. They include 360 posts of senior grade teachers and 50 language pandits. He also said that in spite of many representations to the District Educational Officer, their pleas have not been answered so far. District Educational Officer P. Parvathi, when contacted, said the issue would be sorted by the government and added that they would abide by the decision.
