Two caught carrying 1-cr. worth jewellery sans documents
HYDERABAD: The Abids police on Monday caught two persons who were going to different shops selling diamond studded gold jewellery worth Rs. one crore, which they were carrying without any security and documents.
During a routine check, the police patrolling team saw Jitender Prasad Shukla and Bishu Das, both in their mid twenties, carrying two bags.
“In the backdrop of recent robberies in which unarmed persons carrying jewellery were targeted, we stepped up vigilance and grew suspicious on seeing them,” Abids Inspector K. Shiva Kumar said.
The policemen intercepted the duo and, on checking the bags, they were surprised to find nearly 2.5 kg of diamond-studded jewellery inside.
The duo told the police that they were working for Siddi Vinayaka Exports company located near Basheerbagh and started off from their office ‘on foot' to sell the ornaments at different shops.
“The two employees were at a loss of words when asked to present tax-related documents and how they would protect themselves if they were attacked,” the Inspector said.
