Congress plans four-tier agitation for Telangana
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD: Congress leaders from Telangana will meet at Exhibition Grounds here on July 1 to coincide with the expiry of their deadline to the party high command to make an announcement on separate State.
T. Jeevan Reddy, K. Yadava Reddy and B. Kamalakar Rao, all senior Congress leaders, told media persons here on Monday that the meeting would discuss their strategy to mount pressure on the high command to concede Statehood. In fact, a four-tier agitation that had already been chalked out, would be discussed in detail at the meeting.
The agitation would include a hunger strike by leaders at Nizam College here from July 5, stalling monsoon session of the Legislative Assembly and sending resignation letters to All-India Congress Committee (AICC) president Sonia Gandhi. If all these steps failed to invite a positive response, the leaders would submit their resignations to the Speaker, they added.
They hoped that Congress MPs, who expressed their readiness to take any harsh step, would stick to their word. They also said they did not want to force resignations on anyone, but that was the only way to achieve the demand. An example of this was the Centre's reversal on statehood issue after leaders from coastal districts threatened to resign.
