Physically challenged put to stress at exam

A polio-affected person with spinal injury had to write test for Junior Civil Judges on first floor

She was not permitted to meet monitoring officer of High Court as he was said to be ‘busy'

VISAKHAPATNAM: At the Junior Civil Judges Screening Test conducted here on Sunday at Dr. L. Bullayya College, two physically challenged persons were put through great difficulties before they could write the test.

B. Sai Padma, a person rendered to the wheelchair since birth due to polio and spinal injuries, found to her dismay that her seat was allotted in a room on the first floor of a building. Officials rejected her request for a place in the ground floor and she had to be carried to the examination hall on her wheel chair by untrained persons.

“People with spinal injuries need to be carried by trained persons. They were not trained to carry me and it aggravated my injury. I had to write the examination under great stress and pain. The same was the case with another person who had to climb two floors with the help of a walker,” said Sai Padma.

People with disability are entitled to certain facilities under the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities under the Person with Disability Act of 1995. When Ms. Padma wanted to meet the monitoring officer of the AP High Court, she was not permitted as he was said to be ‘very busy'.
