Sashank slams in five goals

HYDERABAD: Striker Sashank scored five goals including the first hat-trick of the event as Shastri Soccer Club record a 6-0 victory against Cantonment Club (Bowenpally) in the Johnson Memorial State-level football tournament, sponsored by State Bank of Hyderabad, at the Gymkhana here on Monday.

Sashank struck in the 10th, 15th, 49th, 54th and 70th minutes, while Rahul was on target in the 64th minute to complete the tally.

In another match, Young Dynamoes Club (ECIL) defeated Saidabad FC 2-1.

Dynamoes took the lead in the 15th minute through Bharath and he was in the scoring act again in the 47th to make it 2-0.

Though Saidabad reduced the margin in the 69th minute through Talah, it was too late to the change the course of the match in its favour.

Rafat triumphs

Rafat Habib of Southern Railway emerged the snooker champion defeating K. Venkatesham of South Central Railway 62-32, 56-44, 32-62, 58-22 in the all-India inter-Railway snooker championship at the RRC Indoor Stadium.

In another contest, Pushpander of West Central Railway put it across Neeraj of South Eastern Railway 48-32, 51-34, 22-61, 69-29, 42-53 to finish third.

The final placings: 1. Rafat Habib; 2. K. Venkateshwam; 3. Pushpander .

Chess tournament

The Cyber Chess Academy will organise a monthly tournament — ZugMongers Weekend edition — every first Saturday and Sunday at its premises here, IM Lanka Ravi, the director of the academy, said.

The event is open to boys and girls in the age group of five to 16 years and this is a Cyber Chess initiative to unearth local talent, Ravi said.
