Setting an example:Collector R. Anandakumar donating blood at a camp in Erode on Tuesday. ERODE: Collector R. Anandakumar has set another good example for people in the district on voluntary blood donation. The first citizen, who had admitted his daughter in a government school a few weeks ago, volunteered to donate blood after inaugurating a blood donation camp conducted in a mobile blood unit here on Tuesday. Mobile unit The mobile blood unit, an initiative of the Tamil Nadu State Aids Control Society, had already toured a number of districts, educating people on the importance of voluntary blood donation and encouraging them to donate blood. Mr. Anandakumar said, “everyone should realise the importance of blood donation. We can save the lives of many through donating blood.” A large number of people donated blood at the unit on Tuesday. Handbills The personnel travelling in the vehicle had also distributed handbills carrying information on the importance of voluntary blood donation. Officials said that over 6.30 lakh units of blood was collected in the camps held in the State during the year 2009-10. The government had initiated a number of programmes to encourage more people to donate blood.
